ADI Engineering Announces Universal CompactPCI Hot Swap CPU Module Based on the Intel XScale Microarchitecture

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 2002--ADI Engineering, Inc. today announced the availability of the Quinque Model X-2-PMC-SER-E-01 Universal CompactPCI Hot Swap CPU platform and evaluation kit based on the Intel® XScale(TM) microarchitecture.

Quinque leverages the high performance, low power consumption, and rich feature set of the Intel® XScale(TM) microarchitecture in a universal CompactPCI platform that maintains full software compatibility with ADI Engineering's BRH evaluation platform. ADI Engineering will produce, sell, and support Quinque.

Configurable big-endian and little-endian mode support, industry-leading XScale(TM) memory bandwidth, dual on-board Ethernet ports, dual 64-bit 66 MHz PMC expansion slots and a universal CompactPCI hot swap interface make Quinque well suited for a wide range of performance-intensive data communications, networking, and embedded computing applications. Quinque allows system designers to access the full performance potential of XScale(TM) while minimizing power consumption and time to market.

Quinque is designed to optimize both computational throughput and data movement capacity and concurrency through a high-bandwidth, balanced dataflow architecture. The primary CompactPCI interface, the two 64-bit PMC expansion slots, and the on-board PCI I/O bus and Ethernet MACs are interconnected with two PCI-PCI bridges having multiple read and write queues and DMA controllers, enabling Quinque to simultaneously service up to three concurrent PCI transactions. The Primary CompactPCI interface is universal, automatically configuring itself for either the CompactPCI System or Peripheral slots, allowing Quinque to be applied to the full spectrum of CompactPCI applications. ADI Engineering's XScale(TM) optimized SDRAM controller provides sustained memory bandwidth of 800 MB/s, up to 10x higher than previous XScale(TM) design approaches.

By providing a compatible big-endian XScale(TM) application environment, Quinque is ideally suited to provide adjunct management and control plane processing in systems utilizing the Intel® IXP425, IXP2400, and IXP2800 network processors. Big endian mode capability also makes the Quinque useful as a software-compatible early development platform for the Intel® IXP425, IXP2400, or IXP2800.

Quinque is compliant with the PICMG CompactPCI Specification 2.0 R3.0, CompactPCI Host Swap Specification 2.1 R2.0, and the PMC on CompactPCI Specification 2.3 R1.0 for J3/J4 Connections.

Software and tools support for Quinque includes TimeSys Linux SDK, VxWorks®, from WindRiver Systems, the ARM® RealView Developer Kit, the Arriba! IDE from Viosoft, and the MAJIC-MX JTAG emulator from Embedded Performance, Inc.

"Quinque leverages the high performance, low power consumption, and wide industry acceptance of the Intel® XScale(TM) microarchitecture and our BRH reference design into a universal CompactPCI OEM product for demanding communications and networking applications," said Steve Yates, President of ADI Engineering. "ADI Engineering has been able to create a highly flexible OEM platform that aggressively applies the high performance and low power of the Intel® XScale(TM) microarchitecture."

Pricing for Quinque starts at $995 each in OEM quantities. ADI also offers Quinque development kits, which include a royalty-free license to the Quinque design IP, hardware and software engineering support services, and optionally the ARM® RealView Development Kit and the TimeSys Linux SDK. Please contact ADI Engineering for additional information.
